OFFPAGE OPTIMIZATION:
1. Trust
Rank – This is how Google determine the quality of your site. They do this by
checking the type of sites linking to you. The key thing to remember is to some
a range of quality sites when backlinking. This doesn’t mean low quality links
are bad. In fact they help ensure you have a varied link profile
2. Anchor
text variation – Using the same anchor text when backlinking will set off alarm
bells as it shows that your anchor text profile is unnatural. To combat this
when backlinking use a range of anchor text such as “blue widgets”, “red
widgets” etc. Also use anchor text such as “click here” and even the raw url –
www.yourdomain.com. You’ll be able to rank for a variety of keywords and bring
in a lot more traffic this way.I could go into pages and pages of detail but
let’s keep this simple. Aim to have your anchor text profile looking a little
like this:
- Main keywords you want to rank for: 25%
- Phrases and unrelated keywords: 25%
- Branded keywords and raw URL’s anchor text:
50%
3. Ensure
you don’t get links from “Bad Neighbourhoods”. By this I mean not building
links to sites that Google see as spammy. These include sites such as gambling
and pharmaceutical (think Viagra). Keeping away from these sites will help keep
you in Google’s good books.
4. Ensure
your link velocity is built up over
time. Building 10,000 links within a week and then not building any more for
the next two months will set raise red flags. Gradually building links is much
more natural in the eyes of the search engines.
5. Ensure
you’re building links from a range of
link types. The recent blog network deindexing should show this. I can bet
that those who varied their links didn’t receive a drop in rankings or received
a small drop. Relying on one link type is dangerous. Vary your links to combat Google’s
constant changes.
